Thunderbird open links in Firefox

I found this is only necessary in Debian

While in other distributions, Thunderbird is configured in a way that it would open links to webpages when the user clicks them, this is not the case in Debian.

To fix this, simply add the following line into your “prefs.js”:

user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.http", "/usr/local/firefox/firefox");

I just added the new 1.5 Firefox on Debian Sid, and a path check may be needed if the above fails. Firefox’s executable now lives in “/usr/lib/firefox/firefox” — Sam Morgan 2005/12/18 19:26

Make sure thunderbird is not running at the time, and you are set.

The only problem might be finding “prefs.js”, since mozilla/thunderbird/firefox store this files in placed that depend on the user-profile. The following line will help you - type it at the shell-prompt:

find ~/ -name prefs.js

In the mailing-list archives, there is an older, more detailed explanation done by Jay Latham. Thanks.
