Touchpad on Laptop

Synaptics Driver

Your distro will likely install the synaptics driver for the Touchpad. At the beginning of 2006, this was a solution to the lack of that driver:

http://freshmeat.net/projects/synaptics/ I had trouble with my Touchpad after upgrade to 2.6 kernel. I had lost the response to tapping on my touchpad, and the Synaptics driver fixed it. Download and follow the INSTALL directions. — Anita Lewis 2006/01/30 01:57

Turn off Touchpad when Mouse is connected

The Touchpad can be a nuisance if one is using a mouse instead. You probably have a Function key that will toggle the Touchpad on and off, but you can turn it off automatically when you log in with the following addition to ~/.bashrc:

# turn off Touchpad by default
/usr/bin/synclient TouchpadOff=1

Remember that you will need to log out and back in again to see the result. If you want to turn the Touchpad back on, use the Function keys to toggle it on or run the following in a terminal:

synclient TouchpadOff=0
